MINIM response to COVID-19

We are increasing our social impact allocation from 5% of sales to 40% of sales

Why we got started

In November last year we launched MINIM. Passionate about music and design we saw potential in a range of beautiful and well made guitar stands for the resident guitarist. As a criteria for our enterprise, we were determined to ensure our products were made transparently and sustainably, while also having a positive social impact.

A beautiful guitar stand can encourage us to bring our guitars in from the garage to the living room. If our guitars are in the living room they can provide an alternative focal point to the TV. Reorienting living spaces to the guitar can make us more inclined to pick it up and have a play. The joy that comes from this activity, be it alone or with friends and family we believe is incredibly enriching.

What we want to do now

While we’ve been delighted with the initial response to our stands, like many, we are very concerned about what the coming months have in store for the world and community. We are concerned for our communities health, the economic impact and of course the social impact.

This being the case we have decided to increase our social impact contribution from 5% to 40% between now and the end of May 2020. In addition to this we are hopeful that any sales will further assist us in supporting the artisans and manufacturers of our stands.

This means that if you buy a sling stand for $295 then $118 will be donated. If you buy a podium stand for $4,649 then $1,860 will be donated.

Of the money we donate to social impact, it will be split between the following organisations which we believe play a vital role particularly in times of economic hardship:

  1. The Smith family to help disadvantaged Australians to get the most out of their education.

  2. Support Act delivering crisis relief services to artists, crew and music workers as a result of ill health, injury, a mental health problem, or some other crisis that impacts on their ability to work in music.

  3. Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia’s largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum

If you’re purchasing your guitar stand from outside of Australia feel free to speak with us about nominating an alternative charity within your own community.

An indoor oasis

So under these circumstances a lot of us will be spending much more time at home. For some, this presents an opportunity to make our homes an oasis amongst the chaos.

We have an opportunity to make our homes a beautiful space to be and to play. This may mean a nice indoor plant from your local nursery or a beautiful print from a local artist. If you decide to purchase one of our stands, we’ll be doing our best to ensure that your purchase benefits you as the purchaser as well as the communities that we’re a part of.
