RIFF ON A CLASSIC

When Marcel Duchamp perched a humble bicycle wheel upon a pedestal, it was instantly transformed into a work of art. Melbourne designer Craig Braithwaite can do the same for your guitar. The amateur musician (his tastes range from Bossa Nova to grunge) came up with the idea for these handcrafted instrument stands when a second child meant his music room had to be converted to a nursery. Rather than relegate his favourite Fender to a cupboard, or merely leave it lying around, he decided to - quite literally - elevate his passion. The everyday model is made from a tensile steel frame across which is stretched panels of fine Italian leather. The deluxe version is hand-carved from Australian sandstone fitted with leather pads, sculpted to fit a particular guitar's form. Either way, they’d make any room sing. Produced under the brand name MINIM, expect to pay $329 for the steel-framed version and $4,649 for the sandstone version.
